Pack 18 is a Shomer Shabbat Cub Scout pack in Lower Merion, PA, open to all kids ages 5–11. We’re a growing pack, excited to welcome new Scouts and families.
We meet most Sundays at the Kaiserman JCC, with monthly outdoor adventures: hikes, camping trips, service projects, and more.
We explore:
Citizenship: national holidays, the military, flag code
Outdoor skills: nature, personal safety, cooking, knot tying, and knife handling
Teamwork and problem-solving: building projects, skits, planning
Menschlichkeit: living the Scout Law in everyday life.
Cub Scouts is a family program. Parents, siblings, and other caring adults are welcome at every event. Whether you miss the fun of sleepaway camp, love crafts, or just want an excuse for more adventure, Scouting is a way to learn, grow, and have fun together.
We know families are busy; it's okay if you miss meetings or events. Just do your best and keep your Den Leader informed. If your Scout falls behind on adventures, many can be completed at home; check in with your Den Leader so they can track progress. Participation is encouraged, but never forced: kids can always sit out and join in when they’re ready.
The Cub Scout motto is “Do Your Best,” and that’s all we ask.
Some Sunday meetings are devoted to den meetings, which are grouped by grade level:
Kindergarten – Lion
1st Grade – Tiger
2nd Grade – Wolf
3rd Grade – Bear
4th Grade – Webelos
5th Grade – Arrow of Light
In some years we've had separate dens for boys and girls. Currently all dens are co-ed, but this may change based on demand.
Yearly fees are about $175, which includes national/local registration and Pack dues. A uniforms is about $100, and can be worn for multiple years. Campouts and other special activities may have a small additional fee (around $30 per person per night).
No child is ever turned away for financial reasons. Assistance is available for membership, uniforms, and activities.
Uniforms are encouraged, although not required.
Our recommended items are:
Cub Scout Belt (The belt is surprisingly necessary – most awards are in the form of belt loops that slide onto the Scout belt.)
A handbook for your child's age is highly recommended.
These items are all available on scoutshop.org, or at the local Scout Shop in King of Prussia.

All leaders in the pack are volunteers. We have some dedicated helpers, but would always welcome more help, whether that's helping run den meetings, organizing activities, or shopping for a camping trip.
Don't be deterred by lack of experience – there are lots of resources to guide you. You can do this, and we can help!
In Scouting, we will not compromise the safety of our youth or volunteers.
Every Scout deserves a trained leader. All registered Adult Leaders go through a mandatory criminal background check and must complete the Safeguarding Youth Training. We encourage parents and guardians to take Safeguarding Youth Training as well, which can be taken online for free. Also, Scouting America has created A Parent's Guide to Youth Protection.
We encourage all our leaders to take additional training, online and in-person, so we can provide a fun and safe program for our Cub Scouts and their families.
Annual Health and Medical Record forms are required to be completed at least once a year by all participants in any Scouting activity. Form C only needs to be completed for events longer than 72 hours (i.e. Summer Camp) and must be filled out by a physician. This includes participating family members and siblings.
